 | Another Great Guest Speaker at the March Meeting |
Last night, March 8, 2010, the Raytown Bass Club had the pleasure of hearing a seminar given by Shane Voyles, a BASS tournament champion and owner of ShowMe Campers and Boats. Shane gave his professional insights on patterning bass.
After introducing himself and giving his impressive resume, Shane delved into the topic near and dear and, usually, frustrating to most bass fishermen, patterning fish. Shane has developed this concept further by defining patterns within patterns which has led to much of his success in catching so many of our elusive prey.
"One fish, a fluke; two fish a pattern" became the evening's mantra as Shane explained and taught the keys to pattern within a pattern fishing. He taught that it is subtleties that the keen angler picks up on that leads to tournament success. Basically, it is one thing to throw the proper lure that will catch fish, but the next evolution is the right color, size, weight, wiggle of that proper lure that will land the big toads that win bass tournaments.
Shane talked about the proper approach to bass fishing as well. Organization of equipment and boat, proper line, sharp hooks, and a well-practiced cast are all ingredients for tournament success. Also, Mr. Voyles suggested that fishermen warm-up before hitting the water. After all, you don't see a pitcher walk out and start throwing to batters, he has a warm up procedure he goes through that will not only help him throw strikes but also avoid injury. That same theory applies to the sport of bass fishing. Warm up so you can put that lure where you want it, in the strike zone, and avoid problems with your elbow, shoulder, wrist, etc.
Thank you very much for the informative lecture, Shane. We would love to have you back so you can show us how accurate a caster you can become by practice, practice, practice.

I wish we would have had more time for questions and "brain pickin". I was wondering if he might be interested in coming back, at a later date? He almost seemed a little offended, when the meeting went straight to business, but he probably realized there was a lot to accomplish.
